In her series Moving with Joy across the Ice as My Face Turns Brown from the Sun, Gruben pays homage to movement, and through

Formation 2 delineates the rhythm of the ice-fishing season in the spring. To create this installation, from what we see the register, the artist gathered sleds borrowed from people in her home village of Tuktuuyaqtuq to create formations on the ice, emulating the recurring gatherings of the community. With handmade elements and signs of wear, each sled is personal and represents its maker and family. In honoring this joyful springtime pursuit, Gruben's work attests to the importance of coming together and nurturing our connections with each other, as well as with the land.
